RHOSNEIGR

Pretty Coastal Town with Wonderful Beach

Located on the west coast of Anglesey, Rhosneigr has much to recommend it, apart from the shortage of parking! The town is small but does feature some pleasant cafes and a great fish & chip shop. I should also mention the Janet Bell shop. Janet Bell is a local artist who sells prints of her work and other decortaive items from her shops in Rhosneigr and Beaumaris. Most of her paintings showcase favourite places in North Wales. I am a big fan of Janet’s work and have several of her prints including a lovely composition featuring Rhosneigr.

A short walk from the high street, the beach spans a stunning bay backed by RAF Valley at the far end. While the area of beach near the town can be crowded at peak times on sunny days, you don’t need to walk too far around the bay to find long stretches of sand that are devoid of people.

We love Rhosneigr as dogs are permitted on all areas of the beach and the entire bay is great for paddling and swimming. If you are lucky when you visit, you may witness the dramatic sight of fighter jets taking off from the RAF base.

It pays to arrive early as parking in the town is limited to one small car park and any spaces you can find on residential roads. If all else fails, it is possible to park on the side of the road just before you reach the town.

Dogs

Dogs are permitted on the beach throughout the year and are welcomed in most of the cafes. Walk your dogs around to the quiet area of the bay and they run wild, splash around in the water and generally have an amazing time.

Directions

From the Woollen Mill, head towards Bangor on the A487 and then follow the signs to Holyhead. Cross the Britannia Bridge and then stay on the A55 North Wales Expressway until you see the exit for Aberffraw and Rhosneigr. Take this exit and follow the signs to Aberffraw and Rhosneigr until you reach the outskirts of Rhosneigr which will be on your right. Turn right towards the town. You can park on the side of the road before the town or in the car park behind the high street.
