NEWBOROUGH

Beautiful Newborough Beach

Adjacent to Llanddwyn beach but far less visited, Newborough offers a wonderful expanse of golden sand and dogs are permitted on the entire beach throughout the year. It can be accessed via a relatively short walk from the main car park at Llanddwyn by walking along Llanddwyn beach and through the gap in the headland. If the tide is in, you can walk through the woodland. Alternatively, drive past the turning for Llanddwyn and park in one of the car parks for Newborough Woods which are next to the main road. From these you can take a pleasant hike through the woods to the beach and the round trip will take you roughly 3 hours.

Newborough beach affords wonderful views along the Anglesey coastline. There don’t tend to be many people about and you can walk to the lighthouse on the peninsula when the tide is out. The beach is backed by an area of dunes and then the wonderful woodland which features diverse flora and fauna.

Parking is free in the woodland car parks but you will have to pay to use the main car park at Llanddwyn.

Dogs

We have great news! Dogs are welcome at Newborough throughout the year and there’s plenty of room for them to chase those balls! Do be aware that Llandwyn beach, which lies beyond the headland, is out of bounds for dogs between May and September. Dogs love the beach at Newborough but they will also enjoy exploring the dunes and woodland.

Directions

From the Woollen Mill, head towards Bangor on the A487 and then follow the signs to Holyhead. As soon as you have crossed the bridge onto Anglesey turn left and then left again on to the A4080 towards Dwyran and Newborough. In the village of Niwbwrch, you will see a left turn signposted for Llandwyn beach. There’s a kiosk at the entrance where you pay for parking. From here, follow the road to the main parking area at the end or park in one of the woodland car parks and take a stroll through the trees. You can also drive beyond Niwbwrch and park adjacent to the woodland. The beach is a 3km walk from the parking area here.
