Brilliant Beaumaris!
If you are looking for a great place in North Wales to stroll, shop and dine, head for Beaumaris! Affording fabulous views across the Menai Strait to the mountains of Snowdonia and to Great Orm, Beaumaris boasts a stunning location. It’s streets feature numerous independent shops that are worth visiting and there’s a castle to explore too.
We love Beaumaris and it is our default destination for a leisurely day out. There’s plenty to discover and the permanent attractions are supplemented by regular special events including the Artisan Market adjacent to the castle. This takes place on Sundays from Easter until the end of October. The town also hosts a Victorian Christmas event featuring street food together with artisan stalls selling edible treats and crafts. Stall holders dress in Victorian costumes and performers provide entertainment. Beaumaris also hosts larger craft fairs periodically, antique fairs and a big wheel on the seafront during the school summer holidays.
Don’t miss:
Lunch at the Bull’s Head in the high street. The Bull’s Head is an historic hotel, bar and restaurant with a pretty courtyard for el fresco dining. It offers a diverse menu of tasty, traditional meals and is a hugely popular spot for enjoying Sunday roasts. The restaurant is dog-friendly.
The Penny Farthing sweet shop. We are biased because the Penny Farthing is owned and run by our friend Heather. But if you enjoy tradtional sweeties, the shop is unlikely to disappoint. It’s an important place for me because I am diabetic and Heather stocks a variety of chocolate bars made with stevia.
Terrace at the Bulkeley Hotel. To the rear of the hotel you will find a terrace where you can enjoy drinks, snacks and cakes while soaking in the views across the Menai Strait. Simply snaffle a table and then order your treats inside the hotel.
PRETTY TOWN WITH GEORGIAN ARCHITECTURE AND A CASTLE
